I was fortunate to grow up in a family, community and school system that celebrated and supported persons of all ability levels. Throughout those formative years, I became friends with several people with intellectual and physical disabilities, with several of those relationships lasting to this very day. And, where I moved in and out of various paths of life, I always found myself gravitating back towards advocacy of people with special needs. In light of that advocacy, I was introduced to a place called Make Promises Happen while attending Oklahoma State University in 1994. 24 years later, Make Promises Happen continues to be an important and influential part of my life.
